WhatsApp for logistics

Logistics runs on phone calls: where is the vehicle, has the technician reached, is the job done. An AI agent on WhatsApp asks those questions, understands the answers and writes them down.

The work it takes off the ops team

Altrnative grew out of exactly this work: field-service jobs where drivers, transporters and technicians had to be reached many times a day.

How it works

Your system starts a chat for each job with one API call: the agent, the person's number, an approved utility template ("Job #4821: please share where vehicle MH12AB1234 is parked today"). The agent handles the conversation, including answers like "Hinjewadi phase 2 ke paas, Shell pump ke peeche", and captures what you asked for:

Field Example
Location Near Shell pump, Hinjewadi Phase 2, Pune
Available today yes
Reason not done vehicle out on trip

GET /api/v1/chats/{id} returns the status and the captured fields, so your system can update the job without anyone reading the chat. See the API docs.

Why WhatsApp and not SMS or calls

People answer WhatsApp. They can send a pin, a photo or a voice note, and reply when they are free. A call has to be repeated when it isn't picked up; a WhatsApp message waits.

What it costs

Utility templates are Meta's cheaper category (₹0.115 per message in India today). An agent conversation costs ₹0.30 for 24 hours however many messages it takes. See pricing.

Questions

How is WhatsApp used in logistics?

For delivery and pickup updates, collecting locations from drivers and transporters, confirming technician or driver arrival, proof of delivery with photos, and escalations. The WhatsApp Business API lets a system send these messages and read the replies automatically.

Can an AI agent understand a driver's reply in Hindi?

Yes. It reads Hindi, English and Hinglish, including landmarks and informal directions, and extracts the location or answer you asked for.

Can it replace ops callers?

It takes over the routine questions: where, when, done or not. People stay for the exceptions the agent escalates. The aim is fewer calls per job, not zero people.

How does our system get the answers?

Through the API. Each chat has an id; reading it returns the status, the messages and the fields the agent captured.
